Amid the spellbinding beauty of the Himalayas, Nepal lends itself as one of the finest hiking destinations in the world. There are an unfathomable amount of trails available to hikers of all levels although some of the most beautiful treks can be found in the gentle slopes of the Pokhara Valley, in the shadows of some of the highest mountains in the world. Embark on a gently paced hiking adventure, staying in remote lodges and visiting many cultural spots along the way.

ITINERARY OVERVIEW

Day 1 Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to your centrally located hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to familiarise yourself with this enchanting Himalayan capital. Kathmandu Kantipur Temple House
Day 2 The morning is spent on a guided tour of Durbar Square. This is the sacred heart of Kathmandu and there are around 50 temples dotted around its labyrinth of narrow streets, whilst a myriad of vendors sell colourful vegetables and handcrafted souvenirs in a market place atmosphere.  Near to the square you will find the UNESCO world heritage site of Swayambhunath, the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage site in Nepal. Day 3 A full morning drive is required to reach the hilltop settlement of Bandipur but the drive is beautiful, passing from urban landscape to rolling verdant hills. The Newari town is a time-capsule of Nepalese culture and on arrival embark on exploratory tour of the village and the temples of Bindabasini and Khadga Devi. Bandipur The Old Inn
Day 4 Rise early to observe the sun rise majestically over the mountains and village. After a leisurely breakfast back at the hotel embark on a gentle uphill hike to the Magar village of Ramkot and engage with the genial community. The village showcases the traditional roundhouses and authentic village lifestyle of rural Nepal and is home to one of the regions’ last thatched-roof roundhouses. Day 5 Continue to Pokhara, the base point for your Ker & Downey Annapurna trekking adventure. Pokhara is an enchanting town with several idyllic lakes and splendid panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. Check into your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure in this peaceful town. Pokhara Temple Tree Resort & Spa
Day 6 Meet your hiking guides and porters and begin your trek by following a ridgeline in the lower foothills of the Annapurnas, enjoying the views of the Pokhara Valley along the way. This route then drops to the Modi River Valley, where Ker & Downey’s Sanctuary Lodge is located. The lodge has magnificent views of the sacred and unclimbed Fishtail Mountain, or Machhapuchhre, as it is locally known. Lunch is at the lodge followed by an optional walk to the village of Birethanti. Or you may choose to spend the afternoon exploring the surrounding river valley. Nayapul K&D Sanctuary Lodge
Day 7 After breakfast, leave the lodge walking out through the outlying farms following the Modi River Valley beginning to climb up towards the mountains. The trail passes through small hamlets, terraced rice fields and forests with spectacular views of the surrounding valley. After approximately 3 – 4 hours, reach your next lodge in the early afternoon where a hot homemade lunch is served. Jhinu Danda Himalaya Lodge
Day 8 Rise early to watch the unmissable sunrise over the Annapurna South, Annapurna 1, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna, and the Fishtail mountains. After enjoying a relaxing breakfast and the glorious views from the Himalaya Lodge your guide will take you on an exploration of this mountain village and the surrounding countryside. Ghandruk was once a major recruitment centre for the famous Gurkha soldiers and the women of Ghandruk maintain a local industry of weaving traditional Nepalese rugs. Jhinu Danda Himalaya Lodge
Day 9 Leave the Himalaya Lodge behind, hiking out through the village of Ghandruk. It is likely you will pass many goat herders and mule trains conveying good between the Gurkha settlements along the way. Descend for about 2 hours until you reach the colourful Shauli Bazaar, approximately half-way to the Gurung Lodge. Majhgaon Gurung Lodge
Day 10 This morning trek through the unspoilt village of Patlekhet. The walk will take you through sub-tropical forests that include tree orchids, rhododendrons and magnolias. Along the way, stop at the village of Pothana where many Tibetan traders live and sell their souvenirs. After about 3 ½  hours, arrive at the Basanta Lodge with sweeping views of the entire Annapurna Range.  An optional walk through the old village of Dhampus can be enjoyed in the afternoon. Day 11 Return to Pokhara, hiking along the ridge and descending though the wooded hillside and the terraced farmland to the valley floor. Transfer back by vehicle to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Pokhara Temple Tree Resort & Spa
Day 12 An encompassing but gently paced day to explore the best of the Pokhara Valley. Begin with a drive to Kalimati to visit the World Peace Stupa which rises high on a hill on the southern shore of Phewa Lake. After taking in the views, descend on foot through the dense forested hills and through Tibetan settlements until you reach the shores of Phewa Lake. Day 13 Return to Kathmandu for one final night in the capital. Kathmandu Kantipur Temple House
Day 14 This morning check out of your hotel and transfer to the airport for your return flight home.
