Travancore Heritage, Kovalam, Kerala
About
The Travancore Heritage is a heritage style resort, set amidst 15 acres of lush green coconut garden and landscaped gardens south of Kovalam. The resort stands on a high cliff overlooking the Arabian Sea which laps against a long, wide, palm-fringed sandy beach. They have recreated authentic, traditional Kerala architecture, using quaint tile-roofed timber houses each having a traditional courtyard within the 'Nalukettu' in its center, around which the four wings of the house were built in timber. This open courtyard brought in the air, sunlight and rain water into the house making the inhabitants live in tune with mother nature. Various old houses from around the region, which were falling into disrepair have been transported to Travancore Heritage and rebuilt at the site complete with all their architectural grandeur and fine woodcarvings on the rafters, gables and the connecting timbers.
There is an open air restaurant which overlooks the pool and who’s wooden ceiling is over 100 years old, sourced from the marriage hall of a feudal chief in Tamil Nadu. In addition to the main restaurant, there is the 'ocean grill' beach side restaurant with a thatched roof and sea breeze keeping one cool whilst enjoying the fresh catch of the day.""
