The Oberoi Maidens, New Delhi
About
Built in 1903 it is one of Delhi's oldest hotels. Its close proximity to The Red Fort and Jama Masjid mean it is ideally located for exploring some of the capitals most popular tourist spots. Though some travellers may shy away from this part of town (it makes New Delhi seem like a walk in the park) Maidens Hotel is shrouded in a veil of serenity. A sweeping driveway transports you to a world of calm, where peacocks roam lawns interspersed with sonorous fountains and shaded palm trees. Breakfasts are served in The Garden Terrace whilst lunches and dinners are taken in the archaically named Curzon Room. Adorned with Raj Era black and white photos, and serving dishes popular at the time of Maiden Hotel's inception it is part restaurant part history lesson – and it does an excellent job at both. Things can get a little tally-ho over a G&T in The Cavalry Bar. Rooms echo another era, with polished wood flows, chintz fabrics, handwovenrugs and shining brass fittings. True style never goes out of fashion and Maidens Hotel is a timeless wonder.
