The Judge´s Court, Pragpur Himachal Pradesh
About
Dating back to 1918 built by Bhandhari Ram for his son, Justice Sir Jai Lal, the name "Judge's Court" soon stuck. A family-owned country manor house turned heritage hotel, Judge's Court is located at an elevation of 2000 ft, up in the Himalayan Mountain range overlooking Himachal Pradesh's glorious Kangra Valley. Tucked away in the medieval hamlet of Pragpur this ancestral abode has been restored with every attention to detail, in keeping with its colonial Indo-European traditions. Set amidst 12 acres of apple orchards it houses just ten rooms, creating a wonderfully intimate atmosphere. Inside, Judge's Court is decorated in a classic colonial style with ornate beds and chandeliers, as well as original fireplaces in room. The best rooms have unspoiled views of the Dauladhar Mountains. Meals are served inside the dining hall or al fresco on the lawn, and as much as possible is sourced from their own vegetable gardens and fruit orchards, plus all the milk and dairy is from their own cows: it's all wonderfully provincial. Pragpur village itself was classified as a heritage area in 1997 and has remained unchanged since then: with shops that have been passed down for generations, original Himachali architecture in the form of slate roofs and quaint cobbled streets.
