Singinawa Jungle Lodge, Kanha National Park, Madhya Pradesh
About
With just 12 cottages and 2 bungalows interspersed amidst 58 acres of jungle terrain, Singinawa is a pioneering eco-stay. Not a single tree was removed in the making so each rustic slate cottage allows for complete privacy (and a clear conscience). You really feel like you're in the middle of the Madhya Pradesh jungle: which of course you are. Designed in harmony with nature, owners and emphatic naturalists, Latika and Nanda, believe that life imitates art, as much as art imitates life, exhibited in "The Museum of Life and Art" in the form of celebrated pieces by the indigenous Gond and Baiga artisans, whose colourful paintings are unique to Madhya Pradesh. Once in your cottage, open terraces allow views out across the rugged terrain, whilst rain showers add to the jungle feel, and log fires allow for cosy creature comforts on a clear evening. As well as a heated swimming pool (for the humans among us) there is an inviting waterhole, which proves popular amongst the local wildlife, attracting loquacious birds and curious animals. Whether on foot or bike, your dedicated naturalist is on hand to point them all out to you. A must visit for the wildlife enthusiast.
