Royal Heritage Haveli, Jaipur, Rajasthan
About
Former hunting lodge of the Maharajah of Jaipur, Royal Heritage Haveli is a short drive from the centre of town, though it feels a world away. Present owners Angelique and Pradip (and two resident Bassett hounds) provide a personable service and create the feel of a homestay with all the benefits of a luxury boutique hotel. A small property with bundles of character, its dusty pink edifice is in keeping with the much-loved hues of The Pink City. Each of its fifteen rooms is individually decorated with colourful painted frescoes and mosaic tiles, whilst antique furnishings are in keeping with its 18th-century origins. Its sun-dappled gardens and sparkling pool are the perfect respite from the Rajasthani sun. Traditional Indian, Balinese, and signature treatments are available at the Frangipani spa. Head chef, Prithvi Oli, heads a small team, dedicated to using fresh, seasonal ingredients; why much of it comes from the hotel's own vegetable garden. Breakfast is served on one of Royal Heritage Haveli's several terraces, with local Rajasthani dishes are on the menu for dinner, accompanied by the soft tones of a santoor and tabla player in the background.
