The Oberoi Cecil, Shimla – Himachal Pradesh
About
Dating back to 1884 The Oberoi Cecil is a storybook within a hotel. Famed for its grand ballroom dances and notable clientele, during the days of The British Raj it was the most coveted address in Shimla. Enjoying a quiet spot at the end of the famous Mall Road, close to the Viceroy's Lodge, 130 years on the hotel has been painstakingly restored to its former glory by Oberoi Hotels. Still the most coveted address in town it boasts Shimla's only temperature controlled pool, as well as lavish suites and fine dining. Its green and white edifice is visible from across the valley below. Enter through a capacious entrance lobby, with polished original parquet flooring, elaborate flower arrangements, and historic paintings adorning the walls. Housed in the restored main ballroom, dining is a grand affair – so you'll probably feel more in keeping if you dress up for dinner. Serving an array of Pan Asian and Continental dishes there is something to please every palette. Rooms are decorated in a colonial style, and the best include unspoiled views. For wellness lovers, The Oberoi Spa will not disappoint, though the gym could do with updating. Beautiful in the winters when the surrounding pine trees are sprinkled with a dusting of snow. A magical sight.
