About
An oasis of calm and tranquillity nestling in the midst of a 35 acre plantation of shady trees, The Chambal Safari Lodge is part of a much larger area that was once used by the feudal rulers to conduct their annual cattle fair. The present owners Ram and Anu have turned their ancestral home into a charming eco-lodge. Ten independent cottages with covered verandas have been built in the woodland. Great care has been taken to ensure that local materials and craftsmen were used for building, and solar lighting has been installed as a back up to the erratic power supply! Authentic home cooked meals are conjured from fresh, local organic ingredients. Speciality recipes have been fine-tuned over generations and evening bonfires provide a perfect opportunity to star-gaze with other guests. The lodge is an ideal base to explore the beautiful Chambal Valley and river, with its wealth of bird life, gharwals, turtles and Gangetic dolphins as well as cultural sights such as the Bateshwar Temple and Ater Fort. Checklists and resident naturalists will help identify wildlife spotted around the lodge and elsewhere in the Chambal valley.
